UN Human Rights Council to Hold Session on Afghanistan Today

The United Nations Human Rights Council is set to convene a special session on the human rights situation in Afghanistan today, Thursday, February 26, in Geneva.

Isteqamat Press – Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, will present and address his latest report, which focuses on the right to health for women and girls.

The report examines the barriers faced by Afghan women and girls in accessing healthcare services.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights will also deliver a comprehensive report on the overall human rights situation in Afghanistan.

The session comes as the international community continues to express concern over violations of women’s rights, restrictions on education and employment, and the deepening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
