۲۵,۰۰۰ Children Still Living in Tents Six Months After Eastern Afghanistan Earthquake
The Save the Children says that 25,000 children in Afghanistan’s Kunar province are still living in tents six months after a devastating earthquake struck the region.
Isteqamat Press – the organization warned that many of the temporary shelters have been damaged by recent rainfall, leaving thousands of children exposed to harsh conditions.
In a statement released Thursday (February 26), Save the Children said that destroyed homes and schools have yet to be rebuilt. More than half of the approximately 1,300 assessed classrooms were found to be either completely or partially damaged.
Bujar Hoxha, Country Director of Save the Children in Afghanistan, said families fear being forgotten and remain dependent on humanitarian assistance. “This situation will not change anytime soon,” he added.
A powerful earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan in September this year killed more than 2,000 people and left thousands more injured and displaced.
