Donald Trump Imposes New 10 Percent Global Import Tariff

Donald Trump signed a new executive order imposing a 10 percent tariff on imports from all countries, just hours after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that his sweeping global tariffs were unlawful.

Isteqamat Press – the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday (1 Hoot) voted 6–۳, declaring that Trump had exceeded his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and could not impose global tariffs in that manner.

Citing Reuters, the ruling invalidated most tariffs previously imposed on several countries, including Japan, China, Canada, and Mexico. However, tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles — enacted under separate legal authorities — remain in place.

Trump described the decision as “deeply disappointing,” calling some of the justices “a disgrace” and accusing them of lacking the courage to defend American interests.

He immediately signed a new order under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, implementing a temporary 10 percent tariff effective February 24 for a period of 150 days, aimed at addressing what he called “fundamental international payment imbalances.”

The White House said the new tariff would replace the invalidated measures, adding that the Office of the United States Trade Representative has been tasked with investigating unfair trade practices by U.S. partners under Section 301. Meanwhile, tariffs on Japanese automobiles will remain at 15 percent under a bilateral agreement.
