Afghanistan Files Formal Complaint Against Pakistan with UN Security Council
Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Security Council submitted a formal complaint on Monday (February 23).
Isteqamat Press – Nasir Ahmad Faiq, chargé d’affaires of the mission, announced on his X account that the complaint was lodged in protest over Pakistan’s airstrikes on Saturday evening (2 Hoot) targeting areas in Nangarhar Province and Paktika Province.
Faiq emphasized that the strikes resulted in the deaths and injuries of a number of civilians, including women and children, and described them as a clear violation of Afghanistan’s territorial integrity, the UN Charter, and international law.
He called for the Security Council’s immediate attention to the matter, urging an end to such violations, accountability for those responsible, and full respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
Earlier, the Taliban administration summoned Pakistan’s ambassador and delivered a formal protest note. The Ministry of Defense of the caretaker government also described the airstrikes as an act of aggression and pledged an “appropriate and calculated” response at a suitable time.
Pakistan has claimed the strikes were targeted operations against hideouts of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and affiliated groups, carried out in response to recent terrorist attacks on its territory.
The incident has brought border tensions between the two countries to a peak, prompting widespread domestic and international reactions.
