UK Prime Minister Visits India

Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, began his two-day visit to India on Wednesday, October 8 (16 Mizan). More than one hundred business, cultural, and academic leaders are accompanying the British Prime Minister on his trip to New Delhi.

According to reports, the visit aims to support and promote the recently signed UK–India trade agreement. The United Kingdom and India signed a free trade agreement in July during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to London. This agreement reduces tariffs on goods such as textiles, whisky, and automobiles, and enhances business access to each other’s markets.

Negotiations on the deal concluded in May after three years of intermittent discussions. Talks had intensified following tariff-related tensions that arose after Donald Trump’s return to power.

The agreement aims to boost bilateral trade to £۲۵.۵ billion (equivalent to $34 billion) by the year 2040.
